Dr. Robert Lerer Biography
Dr. Robert Lerer is an honors graduate of the Johns
Hopkins School of Medicine and he completed pediatric residency at
Yale. He practices pediatrics in the Cincinnati area and was the
Commissioner of Public Health for 42 years until his retirement in
2017. He is an associate professor of pediatrics at Cincinnati
Children’s Hospital and specializes in the care and treatment of
children with handicaps and disabilities. Dr. Lerer volunteers a
month a year with medical humanitarian organizations rendering
primary care in third world countries. He has been a visiting
professor of pediatrics in many countries in Central and South
America, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and Asia. He is married and
has four adult sons and daughters. Dr. Lerer has won numerous
awards for his lifetime of work in pediatrics, child development
and public health. Last year, his medical Alma Mater, Johns
Hopkins, awarded Dr. Lerer the Samuel Asper Award for achievement
in advancing medical education internationally.
